Objectives: to find out the most common difficulties in translation encountered by English-majored juniors and seniors at Dong A University as well as recommend several possible solutions in order to help the students overcome those obstacles to enhance in their translation and assist the lectures to have suitable teaching methods.

Materials and Method: 176 English-majored students including 102 juniors and 74 seniors from seven classes at the Faculty of English Language and Culture.

Results: there were 69 students agreeing that insufficient target language (Vietnamese) competence was a popular obstacle when encountering English- Vietnamese translation. The total of ratings for insufficient source language (English) competence was slightly larger than of the difficulty in choosing structures to translation, accounting for 55 and 48 responses respectively. By contrast, the inadequate cultural background was the least common obstacle with 41 responses.

Conclusion: Most English linguistic juniors and seniors of Dong A University still meet the difficulties during English-Vietnamese translation. In particular, the students' poor ability to use Vietnamese and English remains the most difficult aspect.
