The SEAOHUN Small Grants Program aims to support One Health professionals in development of new research and training that can have a high impact. It is expected that Small Grants will catalyze innovative research, curriculum development, and training implementation. This initiative is critical to further support member countries’ activities, increase SEAOHUN’s visibility and the visibility of the USAID-One Health Workforce Next Generation project. In addition, it strives to foster multisectoral collaboration, as well as cooperation across government agencies and SEAOHUN member universities. The proposals can address broad spectrum of ideas related to One Health approach, enabling better response to the increasingly complex dilemmas at the convergence of animals, humans, plants, and the environment
Small Grants Program Objective
To enable faculty members of the member Universities and in-service health professionals (human health, animal health, and environmental health) at government agencies of member countries to develop innovative ideas and implement pilot projects that advance training and education on prioritized One Health core competencies and technical skills.
The proposal should address a specific One Health challenge or challenges. The proposed project can include field research, curriculum development, training implementation, or innovative approach to address the issues. We encourage development of novel methods for virtual training delivery.
Suggested topics:
- Professional development with innovative field research projects using a One Health approach
- Assessment of the existing One Health coordinating mechanism
- One Health workforce data, assessments, and planning, including consultations with the National One Health coordinating bodies
- Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) risk reduction at the human-animal-environment interface
- Support to the implementation of National Action Plan on AMR
- Cost-effective analysis on disease control
- Curriculum development based on analysis of One Health workforce needs
- Communities of One Health practice
- One Health policy and advocacy
- Formation of One Health cross-sector advisory groups
- Bringing non-traditional One Health disciplines and partners into activities, including expansion of One Health into pre-service and in-service technical and vocational education
Requirements:
- Be submitted by the SEAOHUN faculty members from its member universities or in-service health professionals from member countries (Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam)
- The proposal should address specific challenges within a broad spectrum of topics related to One Health
- The applicants have to prepare robust safety measures plan in line with WHO recommendations on COVID-19, USAID COVID-19 Guidance for Implementing Partners, and national government recommendations.
- Priority will be given to Small Grants Program applications that promote a collaborative approach by linking two or more researchers across government agencies and member universities
- All proposals must be in English.
Proposal Assessment Criteria
- Importance of the challenge addressed by the project.
- Innovativeness of the solutions proposed by the project that meet priority One Health challenges.
- Feasibility of the implementation plan.
- Does this project promote collaboration? Proposals that build, support, and coordinate across government agencies and member universities will be prioritized.
- Proposals that foster multi-sectoral engagement and are multidisciplinary will be prioritized.
- If the proposal includes in-person activities, are they supplemented with a robust safety measures plan.
- Cost-effectiveness and well-defined budget.
- Potential value of the product resulting from the small grant. Can it be scaled up in the country? Can this product be used by other countries? Can it be disseminated as best practices across a One Health community? Can this product be used for evidence-based advocacy with governments?
